ABOUT
JESUIT IDENTITY
Since their founding almost 500 years ago, the Jesuits have explored the frontiers of society, faith, geography, culture and knowledge.
Long before the 18th-century era called the Enlightenment, they affirmed that individuals could discern the deepest of life’s meanings and the purpose of life for themselves.
Long before evidence-based psychological research, they developed a practice of learning called the Examen (a technique of prayerful reflection on the events of the day in order to detect God's presence and guidance).
They’ve embraced all areas of study and have strived to overcome cultural divides. They see in all things, all places, all times, the opportunity to encounter life’s ultimate mystery that many people call the Divine.
Casa Romero is proud to be part of this tradition as a sponsored work of the Midwest Jesuits (USA Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus). Our mission is inspired and informed by Ignatian Spirituality (which is based on the experiences of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits), and we benefit from collaborating with other Jesuit works.
In particular, we identify with the worldwide Jesuits’ four Universal Apostolic Preferences, or areas of focus:
-
Showing the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises.
-
Walking with the excluded.
-
Accompanying young people to create a hope-filled future.
-
Caring for our common home.
IMPACT STORY
Kyara Vega
Casa Romero has not just been an organization for me; it's been a heart-warming experience. The opportunities, mentorship, and sense of community have all contributed to my growth in ways that extend beyond what words can express. I am genuinely thankful for my journey with Casa Romero.
